The Volvo XC40 Compact SUV Is Named 2018 European Car Of The Year
Volvo Cars first won the prestigious award: on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, the new small Volvo XC40 SUV received the title of 2018 European Car of the Year.
This award is the logical continuation of the recognition of the Swedish brand’s SUVs. Over the past two years, the North American Truck/Utility of the Year title was won by the XC90 and XC60. The British automobile magazine What Car? recently has awarded the XC40 with its Car of the Year award.
More than 20,000 pre-orders have been already placed on this compact model in the USA and Europe, it means Volvo Cars chose the right way.
The Volvo XC40 was the first to be built on the new compact modular platform (CMA) – the joint development of Volvo and Geely. It will become the basis for all future vehicles of 40-series, including electric ones, and will optimize the resources for their production.
The XC40 is also the first model of Volvo with the function of common access to cars. With Volvo’s digital key technology and the Volvo On Call mobile application, the XC40 owners can share the car with family and friends without having to pass the key physically.
For the crossover a Care by Volvo subscription is offered with the possibility of making a monthly fee for using instead of paying the full cost of the car.
The XC40 offers original design solutions and a functional organization of space in the interior, including niches for storing things in the doors and under the seats, a special place for phones and induction charging, as well as a foldout hook for small bags and a removable waste bin in the console.
Later, hybrid and electric powertrains for the XC40 will be available.
