Toyota Prepared Two Surprises At The Geneva Motor Show
Toyota has brought just two new items to the oldest and most important motor show in Europe – an all-new Toyota Auris and an updated Toyota Aygo. To some extent, both debuts became a surprise, especially the first model.
Interestingly, Toyota somehow managed to keep a secret to the premiere of the new-generation Auris hatchback. The model looks not only fresher, but also sportier, as well as the Toyota Camry of the latest eighth generation, presented just over a year ago.
The second generation Auris is designed on a new TNGA platform. A new Prius and the mentioned Camry are built on it too.
In comparison with its predecessor, the novelty increased in length by 40 mm, by 30 mm – in width and became 25 mm lower.
The motor range included a petrol 1.2-liter 115-hp engine, as well as two hybrid systems – with a 1.8-liter (122 hp) and a 2.0-liter (180 hp) engines. Both ones are petrol.
The premiere of the updated Toyota Aygo city car has not been so unexpected – the model reached the middle of the life cycle of its current (second) generation.
The restyled Aygo externally features a new form of LED running lights, a new design of wheel rims and a number of other small things. In general, neat facelift. The company added new colors of the body and interior upholstery.
A more significant innovation is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder Euro 6.2 engine. Several new technologies, new low-friction components are found in it. As a result, vibration has decreased, torque at low speed has increased as well as fuel efficiency. At the same time, the engine has 72 hp, which is very good for a small urban hatch.
Both Auris and Aygo will go to European markets this year. The price for the first model will be in the range of 25,000-30,000 euros depending on the configuration. The Aygo will cost about 12,000 euros.
