Toyota has introduced the official teaser of the new Supra coupe
After rumors and spy photos, Toyota has finally introduced the first official picture of its revived Supra coupe.
The teaser shows the body’s rear, the silhouette resembles the Toyota FT-1 concept, which, apparently, the car will be based on.
The premiere of the Toyota Supra pre-series prototype is expected at the Geneva Motor Show, as for the arrival of a production version of the legendary Japanese sports car, we’ll have to wait for it.
It is possible the new Toyota Supra will be released with Gazoo Racing banner, as well as the Yaris GRMN – the first model of the Toyota’s sports division sold in Europe. We don’t know for certain whether the production car will be called Supra, it may be named the Toyota GT-One.
The original model cost from £40,000 (€45,000) 25 years ago, the 2019 car will cost about €62,000.
The Toyota Supra is a joint development of Toyota and BMW and is built on the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the BMW Z4 roadster of a new generation. Most likely, both models will be developed by Magna Steyr in Austria and will have similar electronic equipment, but with different programming.
It is expected that the power line-up of the new Supra will include 4-and 6-cylinder turbo engines of BMW and an automatic double-clutch transmission.
In the future, the appearance of a motor from Gazoo Racing, as in the GR Super Sport concept, is possible: a 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with direct injection combined with a hybrid power system.
