The TOP 10 business sedans of the European car market
Sales of mid-class cars in Europe in 2017 amounted to 543,000. One third of them are the Volkswagen Passat sedans and wagons. Which else models entered the European TOP 10 of business segment?
CarSalesBase.com ranked the most popular mid-size cars in Europe last year.
A segment leader Volkswagen Passat was sold in more than 183,000 units. This is slightly less than a year before, but the model remains unattainable for rivals.
The Skoda Superb, which is built on the same platform, took the 2nd place. The flagship of the Czech brand in 2017 was purchased by more than 80,000 people.
Opel / Vauxhall Insignia is the only model that approached the dominant market players. Its new generation’s entering the market spurred sales in the last quarter of the year by 62%. The result for 2017 is 72,000 units.
The Ford Mondeo is the fourth (56,000), the Renault Talisman is the fifth (32,000).
The Toyota Avensis, Mazda6, Peugeot 508, Kia Optima and the Hyundai i40 entered the TOP 10 too.
It is worth noting a very successful debut of the new-generation Kia Optima. Sales of the model due to the change of generations increased by 70%.
We’d like to add that the segment of medium-sized passenger cars in Europe has almost halved in the past 10 years. The main reason for this trend is the growing popularity of SUVs.
