The BMW iX3 Сoncept Is One Of The Brightest Novelties Of The Beijing Auto Show
At the newly opened Motor Show in Beijing, BMW demonstrates the concept of the iX3 electric SUV. The serial car will be launched in 2020. It will be assembled in a factory in China’s Shenyang, the Auto Express reports.
The car is a potential competitor to the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron and the Mercedes EQC. Unlike the i3 and i8, the BMW iX3 is based on the already existing X3 model and almost repeats its design. It will be the first in a wide range of BMW’s electric crossovers.
Launching its commercial version in 2020, the company intends to equip all its new production models with electric powertrains.
Unlike the standard BMW X3, the new vehicle has aerodynamic wheels and updated bumpers. The front part is slightly differently formed, in particular the BMW’s ‘nostrils’ have merged together.
In general, there are few changes, but BMW promises that all future models of the electric series can be easily distinguished by design from their ‘brothers’ with ICE. By the way, the company has not yet shown the interior of the novelty.
The BMW iX3 Concept has received eDrive technology of the latest fifth generation, which groups the electric motor, transmission and power electronics into a separate electric drive system. BMW considers the availability of more powerful, denser and lighter batteries to be the advantage of their latest systems.
It is known that the SUV is equipped with a 70kW battery and a new 270-hp electric engine. If the serial iX3 will be offered with two motors and four-wheel drive, the total output should be near 540 hp.
The claimed driving range is 401 km according to WLTP, the same as the Audi’s e-tron, but less than the Jaguar’s I-Pace. Like the e-tron, the iX3 can be charged up to 80% in less than half an hour.
