Some Details of The New Ford Focus RS Are Known
The Ford Focus RS of the new fourth generation will arrive in a couple of years, but speculation is rampant about what this hot hatch will be, the Motor 1 informs.
If to believe to some media, it will almost be a supercar with room for kids, and not just a quicker family car.
It is expected that the RS will receive 406 hp and 576 Nm of torque, but the engine remains the same as on the current model – a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost with 350 hp Where will the additional power come from?
A new 48-volt mild-hybrid system helps – it will provide more horsepower while maintaining an acceptable level of emissions. The increase in power will mean a faster acceleration from 0 to 100 km (62 miles), and the current maximum speed of 266 km/h may be not enough for the new car.
As for the transmission, a dual clutch option is possible, popular in the US and China, where the car is planned to be sold, as well as in Europe.
Additional power, speed and technology are very likely to entail extra cost. Unlike the current generation car, which is a kind of ‘working class’, relatively affordable alternative to the Mercedes-AMG A45 and the Audi RS3, the new Focus RS will most likely have a price on par with German competitors.
We’d like to add that all this is only an assumption, no official data from Ford are available.
