Mercedes Has Presented Its Smallest Sedan
At the 2018 Beijing Auto Show Mercedes-Benz has presented a serial version of its compact A-Class sedan. The new car will have two variants: one for the whole world and the second extended one – only for China.
The sixth model of the Mercedes-Benz compact cars lineup is largely similar to the concept that was presented at last year’s motor show in Shanghai.
The exterior styling of the A-Class sedan is naturally made in the design code of the base hatchback, the new fourth generation of which has been introduced earlier this year.
The Chinese version of the A-Class L is longer than the European (global) by 60 mm. It will be the only external difference. All this difference will be concentrated in the back door. The modification for the China is 77 mm shorter, 14 mm narrower and 18 mm higher than the modern C-Class sedan.
The new Mercedes-Benz model is a direct competitor to the Audi A3 Saloon, which is being sold well, only slightly behind in popularity with the base “three”- a hatchback.
The A-Class Sedan is one of eight new compact models planned by the German automaker. This list contains the new A-Class hatchback, as well as the successors of the existing B-Class, the CLA, the CLA Shooting Brake and the GLA. Moreover, a new compact crossover preliminary named the GLB is planned.
In China, the A-Class sedan will initially be sold with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol turbo engine with 135 or 163 hp. Later the lineup will be added with a more powerful 2.0-liter 190-hp motor. Both ones will be offered exclusively with a standard dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox.
The debut of the European variant of the A-class sedan is expected next autumn.
