The Hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander Received A New 2.4-Liter Engine

At the Geneva Motor Show the updated Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is presented. Its hybrid drivetrain now includes a more powerful engine with improved fuel efficiency.

A petrol engine of 2.4 liters replaced the previous 2.0-liter one. Mitsubishi says the new V4 has higher torque, better responsiveness and lower exhaust emissions.

The Outlander PHEV also has upgraded electrical part of the hybrid system. It includes, we remind, not one, but two electric motors. It is reported that their output increased by 10%. In addition, the capacity of a battery is enlarged by 15%.

As you can see, the car manufacturer does not name more concrete figures. It is expected carbon dioxide emissions will be 41 g/km according to the modern method of NEDC assessment.  The current version of the hybrid Outlander can go up to 50 km on a single charge. The updated SUV with the more powerful battery will likely have a higher figure.

The refreshed Outlander features a bit different running lights, a more salient radiator grille, new 18-inch wheels and another rear spoiler.

In the interior it is worth noting an upgraded dashboard and an additional ventilation system for the rear passengers.

In Europe the latest Outlander PHEV will go on sale in 2018. The price has not been announced yet. A current version costs from 40,000 euros.
