European Automotive Sales: Statistics 2018

For the expired period of the current year (January-February), the European market grew by 5.5%, in total 2,445,109 new cars were registered. The result of February 2018 was the best in the last 10 years (since 2008). According to ACEA, Germany remains the largest market, and Volkswagen is the leader among the brands.

The decline in sales was observed in the UK, Sweden, Ireland. The biggest drop in demand was in Norway (-22%). The rest of European markets showed growth, more than others – Bulgaria and Croatia (+39.5%).

The TOP 5 largest markets include:

  1. Germany (531,178 units, +9.5%);
  2. Italy (359,907 units, +1.0%);
  3. France (325,739 units, +3.4%);
  4. United Kingdom (244,420 units, -5.1%);
  5. Spain (212,135 units, +16.4%).

The five most popular brands according to the sales results in January-February 2018 are as follows:

  1. Volkswagen (265,505 units, +6.4%);
  2. Peugeot (160,278 units, +15.8%);
  3. Renault (156,621 units, + 2.6%);
  4. Opel / Vauxhall (137,662 units);
  5. Mercedez (121,475 units, +4.0%).

The TOP 5 automakers with the best sales are:

  1. Volkswagen Group (581,109 units, +9.3%);
  2. PSA Group (401,902 units, +70.6%);
  3. Renault Group (236,619 units, +8.1%);
  4. FCA Group (166,822 units, -1.6%);
    5. Ford (158,259 units, + 5.4%).

It’s worth noting the excellent result of Peugeot Citroën Automobiles, which managed to increase sales by almost 71% in an annual comparison.
