Euro NCAP named the safest cars of 2017
During 2017, the Euro NCAP committee tested about 70 new models that entered the European market. According to their results, experts from an independent organization named the safest cars in their classes.
Volkswagen models won in three categories at once, and the second-generation Volvo XC60 crossover, according to the results of crash tests, is recognized as the safest car in the overall standings.
Most of the models tested in 2017 gained a maximum five-star rating. These indicators were achieved despite the ever more stringent method of Euro NCAP assessment.
The automatic pedestrian detection system, first tested by Euro NCAP in 2016, was already available in 82% of vehicles tested in 2017, and as standard equipment, 62% of them.
The winners in the categories are as follows:
Luxury class – the Volkswagen Arteon
Large SUVs – the Volvo XC60
Compact SUVs – the Volkswagen T-Roc
Supermini – the Volkswagen Polo
Compact vans – the Opel Crossland X
Compact family cars – the Subaru XV and Subaru Impreza
