EAFO Defined The 5 Most Popular Plug-In Hybrids In Europe
According to the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV remains the best-selling car with a plug-in hybrid system. The AutoUniversum also selected the 5 most popular plug-in hybrids in Europe.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV from the beginning of 2018 has been chosen by 2,215 people. The SUV’s hybrid powertrain with a total output of 230 hp includes a petrol engine and two electric motors – one for each rear wheel.
The Volkswagen Passat GTE with the result of 2143 sales became the second. Apparently, the model has all chances to be a leader of the segment.
The third place by popularity in Europe among plug-in hybrids is taken by the Swedish Volvo XC60 PHEV today. 1,900 men have become its owners since the beginning of this year. By the way, the crossover has the most powerful system of the top five leaders – 407 hp.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC350e SUV is left at the fourth place (1,677 units sold). The fifth is the BMW 225xe Active Tourer compact van (1,513 units).
It remains to add that the main difference between plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids is the ability to charge a battery not only by generating electric power from an internal combustion engine, but also from an external electrical network, including a domestic one.
