Car Market In China In March 2018: Leadership Of VW, Breakthrough Of The Baojun 510
Sales of cars in China continue to grow slowly, but steadily. In March 2018 sales amounted to 2.1 million units (+5%), since the beginning of this year – more than 6 million (+4%). Among the brands Volkswagen remains the leader. The Wuling Hongguang minivan traditionally became the bestseller, the second place was taken by the Baojun 510 SUV.
Sales of SUVs in China are recovering after a slight decline in February, which is mainly due to seasonality, the CarSalesBase.com reports. Demand for electric vehicles and hybrids increased significantly – by 117%: almost 68,000 green cars were sold.
The brand number 1 in the PRC remains Volkswagen. More than 275,000 people became owners of German cars in China in March, since the beginning of the year – 802,000.
The TOP 5 most popular brands also includes Geely, Changan, Toyota and Honda, with Geely sales rising by almost a third.
The Wuling Hongguang remains the most popular model – in March, almost 53,000 units were sold. The second place is interesting – it was taken by the Baojun 510 compact crossover (pictured above). The model was purchased by 41,000 people – by 150% (!) more than in March 2017.
The Volkswagen Lavida became the third, the demand for the sedan falls. However, at the Beijing Motor Show a new generation is presented, which may well spur consumer interest.
We can add that one more Baojun model – the 310 hatchback-compact van is perfectly sold. It became the eighth, having risen to 9 position at once in comparison with the last year.
The TOP 10 of the Chinese car market also includes the Haval H6, Nissan Sylphy, Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Sagitar, Volkswagen Tiguan and the Volkswagen Bora.
